Jacob in’t Veld Photography Exhibition Opening @ The Old Gallery, Coonabarabran

As part of Coonabarabran’s Celebrations of International Dark Sky Week celebrations ‘The Old Gallery’ is delighted to be hosting a new exhibition with the photographic works of Jacob in’t Veld.

Jacob in’t Veld originates from Holland and now lives adjacent to the Warrumbungle National Park where he captures awesome images of the landscape and wildlife. Jacob has been a photographer since 1977 and likes to do things ‘really big’! His images are incredible and often pieced together to create amazing panoramas. Jacob’s exhibition will be on display at The Old Gallery for the month of April with a very special exhibition opening on Sunday 31st March from 2pm – 5pm

2.30pm Pip & Deb from Mendooran’s Blue Sky Cheese will give an overview of their cheeses

3.30pm Jacob in’t Veld will speak about his works

Musician and Singer, Kira Alexander, will play in between the presentations.

Come join us for a relaxing afternoon to hear about the creative process and adventures of Jacob’s in’t Veld’s photographic works.

Discover the delicious creations of ‘Blue Sky Cheese’ with Pip and Deb guiding you through tastings of their delectable cheeses & sales​.

Enjoy the music of local musician Kira Alexander​.

 A limited number of cheese platters will be purchasable on the day at $7 each which will include a sample of 3 cheeses – Castlereagh Camembert, Peppertree Feta and Beni Blue, plus some crackers and grapes.

Blue Sky Cheese will also have their cheeses available for tasting and purchase. Their 200g Camembert is $15, their 200g tub of Feta is $7.50 and their  50g wedge of Blue is $4.

All are handmade here in Mendooran by Pip and Deb using Dubbo’s Little Big Dairy single source local milk.

This exhibition is one of a series of events in Coonabarabran to celebrate International Dark Sky Week March 31 – April 7.

Celebrate International Dark Sky Week by doing this unique astrophotography workshop at Warrumbungle National Park. It’s Australia’s only Dark Sky Park.

Please note

You’ll need to bring a few things with you:

  • Your camera and its instruction manual.
  • Sturdy tripod
  • Headlamp or torch, preferably red. If needed, this can be achieved with several layers of red cellophane.
  • Cable release or remote control to suit your camera. These are available online and aren’t expensive.
  • Downloaded camera app, if available
  • Chair or cushion to sit on when doing outside photography
  • Laptop computer optional.

Dinner will be provided. Let us know any dietary requirements when booking.  

Join award-winning photographer Brad LeBroque for an introduction to astrophotography. You’ll gain the know-how, ability and achievement of taking your very own dark sky image!

  • We’ll begin at Warrumbungle Visitor Centre, with a 90-min workshop focusing on preparing your equipment.
  • We’ll break for dinner.
  • Then we’ll start taking photos, either at the visitor centre, or we’ll walk 1km to Whitegum lookout.

Warrumbungle National Park, near Coonabarabran, is the first Dark Sky Park in the southern hemisphere. It’s the ideal place to learn about photographing the incredible night sky.

It’s a good idea to wear warm clothes and sturdy shoes. 

Warrumbungle campgrounds, Blackman and Balor Hut, are ideal places to sleep under the stars. There are also great hikes to tackle, like the challenging Breadknife and Grand High Tops walk. It’s a 14.5km loop track, famous for its vistas of rugged volcanic landscape. Whitegum lookout is a shorter stroll. It’s a nice picnic spot and an easier way to take in the Warrumbungle landscape.
